Introduction Digital art started around 1952 in US when Ben F. Laposky produced Oscillon Number Four. Artist always eager to produce something that beyond limitation of technology and mostly, artist at that time is computer programmer because no graphic software was available at that time. Herbert W. Franke, John Withney Sr. and Ben F. Laposky are one of the pioneers in digital art. Ben Laposky has created first graphic image generated by an analog machine. A mathematician and artist from Iowa, he produced this image by using manipulated electronic beam display across the fluorescent face of an oscilloscopes cathode-ray tube and then recorded onto high-speed film. Million Dollar Baby tells the inspirational story of Maggie Fitzgerald, a hard working, dedicated, and inspired rookie boxer who will do whatever it takes to be the best. Maggie wants to be a boxer even though she is in her 30’s, which is an unusual age for beginner boxers. The theme is of Million Dollar Baby is that life is unfair but you have to keep working hard anyways to achieve your goals. Klinger, Artiles and Barletta (2006) examine the issue of language acquisition in English Language learners and attempt to decipher the underlying causes of difficulties faced by these learners. The primary debate the researchers examine is whether language acquisition difficulties are caused by limited language proficiency or could be linked to learning disabilities. The researchers postulate that linguistic, immigration, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic factors work in tandem to influence language proficiency in ELLs and thus these issues should be considered when examining these students before a decision is made that they require special education services. Teachers are able to understand some of the factors that are not directly related to the classroom that may impact ELLs and their acquisition of the language. One important observation in the current article is that the home environment often presents an obstacle to successful acquisition. This is because parents, who are themselves non-English speakers, limit their use of the target language at home. As a result learners do not get effective reinforcement at home and thus have considerable difficulties acquire the requisite language skills. Teachers therefore should try to expose students as much as possible to the language while they are in school and to try to form effective partnerships with the home so that parents are brought on board to help in their child’s language acquisition. I found this article to be quite useful in helping to understand the various factors that can impact language acquisition and comes as a warning for me not to take certain characteristics of the learners in the classroom for granted. This article has helped clarify for me how issues such as ethnicity and even the specific native language may either hinder or foster language acquisition. There are a multiplicity of factors that can impact learning and it is very difficult to determine how each of these elements are influencing the various ELLs in any given classroom. The work of Jackson Pollock Biography Discuss the work of Jackson Pollock, considering his painting as an expression of his times with the growing interest and awareness of psychology and psychiatry and of the subconscious. Jackson Pollock was an American artist and prominent figure for art from the late 1940s until his premature death in 1956. He developed a distinguished influence in America for expressionist painting, initiating the abstract expressionism movement in New York post-World War II, when the city overtook Paris as the ‘art capital’ of the world. His work was consequential from self-expression and psychological release, and received a tremendous response from the public for his unique artistic methods and the emotional response encouraged in his work. His growing affiliation with psychology, psychiatry and his interest in the subconscious affected his works as he conveyed mental and emotional states of mind and used his troubles as a basis for his creativity. Portrayed within his paintings are Pollock’s conflicting emotions and sides of his personality, being an unsettled, uncaring side and a sensitive side. His artworks were total abstractions, with no representational forms, and he showed disregard for traditional painting conventions. Visually, his paintings were reflective of both the vibrancy and spirit of American culture, but even more so of his personal ongoing hardships and their consequential effects on his mind and identity. His original technique of painting in dripping, splashing and pouring paint would generate movement, which symbolized different emotions, and the intensity of said emotions. This movement combined with the colours he chose to use also developed the tone and mood of his work. Pollock endured an ongoing adversity as an alcoholic, and would often experience high peaks of intense emotion, which was when he said he did his best work. This was displayed in all of his paintings and derived emotional responses from the audience too. He devised his own technique in action painting, where he would drip, splash and pour paint onto his canvas that lay on the ground; and would often walk around the canvas whilst doing so; this practice created movement within his artworks. Movement that portrayed quick, hurried action was representative of intense anger, urgency, anxiety or euphoric happiness, whilst movement that portrayed seemingly slow, heavy action was symbolic of sadness, despair or emptiness. Blue Poles’, originally titled ‘Number 11’ is one of Pollock’s most famous artworks and one of his most significant in self-expression. As well as his typical use of paint on canvas using his renowned drip technique, Pollock incorporated shards of glass and footprints into the work, which was an open representation of his troubles as an alcoholic, at a time in which his alcoholism was at a peak. The shattered glass shows broken alcohol bottles, and the subtle footprints illustrative of a long, da rk journey. The swaying poles are also used as a depiction of drunkenness and uncertainty. The colours used in this painting contrast with one another, creating a frenzied atmosphere, exemplifying the same notion of an incredibly difficult ongoing adversity, and the strains in coping. Another strategy used by Pollock in order to convey different psychological states was the colors that he used to establish the tone and mood of his work. Vibrant colors often projected vitality and happiness, tones of red would exude anger and/or anxiety, and dark, dull colors portrayed sadness or emptiness. The emotions that Pollock would emanate through his paintings also exemplified psychiatric states such as depression or anxiety, or a lost or poor sense of self, reflecting what he endured as a result of his troubles. Pollock was a troubled man and his pain, agony and hardships all showed in his artworks through this tone and mood. He used his painting as the ultimate outlet for this pain, which is the reason for his deep focus and passion for his work. Abortion should be made illegal in the United States because of the trauma it causes to those who are involved. Abortion should be illegal after a certain point. Flourishing refers to being in an optimal range of human functioning and is indicated at the individual level by goodness, generatively, growth and resilience. At  the collective level of groups and organizations, flourishing may be indicated by creativity, innovation, growth, resilience, thriving virtuousness or other markers that a collective is healthy and is performing in an â€Å"above normal† or positively deviant range. POS also focuses on the development of individual, group and collective strengths that represent forms of individual and collective excellence. POS unites existing domains of organizational inquiry focused on flourishing. This includes work on flourishing indicators such as creativity, engagement, flow, growth, health and well-being, as well as contributors to flourishing that consider features of the organization, group and job contexts.

At one time bitter rivals, recently these two nations have come to a time of cooperation. Both nations are members of the European Union (EU), both are proactive and modern states, with strong economies. This paper will discuss the similarities and differences of the French and German political systems. Areas to be discussed will be the branches of government that is to say the executive, legislative and judiciary levels of government. Their will also be brief discussions on the history of the development of the present states of France and Germany. The country of France is governed by a presidential republic with a centralized national government (capital Paris). The French Republic has been living under the same constitutional regime since 1958, with the introduction of the Fifth Republic as introduced by President Charles Degaulle. The constitutional amendments increased the powers of the president and decreased the control of the parliament. More on the roles of the executive branch and legislative branch in later sections. With a bicameral parliament legislature powers are divided between the National Assembly and the Senate. Frances judicial functions are controlled by the Supreme Court of Appeals (Cour de Cassation). France is divided into 22 adminstrative divisions known as regions, these regions are illustrated in the following map. Epicenter vs. Center Epicenter vs. Center Epicenter vs. Center By Simon Kewin In an article on the BBC website just recently, the head of a computer game industry body described the city of Dundee as the epicentre for the industry in Scotland. A little earlier, in an article about renewable energy on the same site, the First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, described the city of Glasgow as the epicentre for renewable energy engineering. Now, either someone has been secretly building a network of vast tunnels underneath Scottish cities, or these are two examples of a widely misused and misunderstood word. Epicenter (epicentre in British English) refers to a point over or above the centre of something. It is most commonly used to identify the point on the Earths surface that lies directly above the focus of an earthquake. Increasingly, however, the term is used in a vague and lazy way to make the word center seem more dramatic and interesting. Reporters are forever standing at the epicenter of something, apparently unaware that the events they describe must, logically, be happening underground. Of course, you could argue that epicenter is a word whose meaning is in transition; that it is acquiring a secondary sense of, simply, center (especially the center of something dramatic or calamitous.) The Life of Jean-Paul Sartre - Essay Example The years that followed marked the life of a man with great creativity, talent in writing, deep thinker and a man of strong political will and persuasion. All these characteristics coupled with his childhood experiences led to his astounding achievements through his plays, novels, books, essays and lectures. Sartre's childhood was filled with much bitterness and confusion. The first natural pain to deal with was having no father, after the first fifteen months of his life. Sartre was clearly hurt by the fact that he never had a chance to be acquainted with his father, and was never told anything significant about the relationship they had; whether his father had ever taken him "in his arms," or if he had even loved him (The Words 20). Sartre then grew up with his grandparents who were rather fond of him, or at least depicted that in their mannerisms (Experiential Influences, par. 5). However, he felt that it was just family "play-acting," and a "system" that "horrified" him. (The Words 84; 112; 222). Sartre also faced an identity crisis. Despite his family's claim of him being the "miracle child" and "wonder child," he saw himself as ugly. His peers had also given him that impression. He was short, small-built cross-eyed and awkward in stature. Added to this, his mother treated him like a girl, not allowing him to play the seemingly rough games that other males would play, and keeping his hair long. It was his belief that she had silently prayed for a girl (Experiential Experiences, par. 7). He also felt forced into a lifestyle of reading and writing, because that was what his grandfather Charles admired, having been a writer himself. It however became a pleasant escape for him from the unhappiness he experienced at home. In his autobiography The Words, he states that "By writing I was existing. I was escaping from the grown-ups." It also positively affected his intellectual development as he became familiar with famous authors of his time (qtd in Experiential Influences, par. 11). As if this was not enough for Sartre to deal with, he also suffered from ill health. He notes in his autobiography, The Words: Things would have been fine if my body and I had got on well together. But the fact is that we were an odd couple [] If he suffers bodily as a result of needs and sickness, his unjustifiable state justifies his existence. His right to live is based on hunger, on the constant danger of death. Breathing, digesting, defecating unconcernedly, I lived because I had begun to live. I was unaware of the violence and savage demands of that gorged companion, my body, which made itself known by a series of mild disturbances, much in demand among grown-ups [] I had almost died at birth (88). His father had actually been quite ill himself when he met Ann-Marie in 1904. At that time he was suffering from entercolitis, which he developed when he visited China. He however married her and soon after she became pregnant with his child, Jean-Paul Sartre. Sartre feels that his father's illness had a major role to play in his own illness.
